Devonshire Canyon Open Space Alliance
Welcome! Our goal is to preserve the natural beauty of
the Devonshire Canyon area, preserve its remaining open space for
the enjoyment of all San Carlos residents, and protect that open
space from inappropriate development (i.e. development
non-compliant with city, county or state regulations.) To that end,
we are currently working to communicate to the San Carlos City
Council the risks and downside for the City of the proposed
annexation and development of the Winding Way project. This website
provides information about the canyon and upcoming events.
News
3 November 2008
Thank you to the hundreds of you who have supported the
Devonshire Canyon Open Space Alliance over the years. The San
Carlos City Council has an item on the agenda for the December 8th
Council meeting with the potential for significant impact on the
future of the Canyon. We urge all of you to plan to attend this
meeting at 7PM on December 8th, at San Carlos City Hall, 600 Elm
Street.
Those of you who received notices indicating this item would
be on the agenda for the November 10th meeting - it has been pushed
back to December 8th. Thank you to all those who attended the
October 27th meeting to express their views. Also, thank you to the
City Council for considering our concerns about the speed of the
process and agreeing to postpone deliberations. We will update this
web site with any further changes to the schedule as they occur.
It has been 3 years since the Winding Way development came
before the City Council. Annexation and development were not approved
at that time. Instead, through our outstanding participation and
voice we were able to convince the City of San Carlos to require
the developer to produce a focused Environmental Impact Report
giving us the renewed opportunity for comment. Three years later
they have submitted a revised document and it is up for
approval.
There is currently an item on the agenda for the December 8, 2008
City Council meeting to discuss for approval what is
being described as a Final Environmental Impact Report (FEIR).

Please email, phone, or write to each of the City Council
members expressing your opinion on the Winding Way development.

It is time for all of our voices to be heard again. This is a
fresh start with a new team. The current City Council and staff are
comprised of mostly new people who were not here in 2005. There is
tremendous interest and awareness in San Carlos on the environment,
open space and the trail systems.
It is important for us to show the City Council, in large
numbers, that we care and want to work with them to make great
decisions that benefit our entire community.
